Deep Sea Diver
"Deep Sea Diver is the stage name of singer/songwriter Jessica Dobson. Having been on tour for the past year with Beck as his lead guitarist, she is no stranger to the stage and has developed a commanding presence that draws you in with each arresting chord. Deep Sea Diver got her start on Atlantic Records at the age of 20, and spent time in New York recording with Modest Mouse producer Dennis Herring and then time in Seattle with Band of Horses/Built to Spill producer Phil Ek. She is currently self-releasing a new EP that contains songs recorded by Matt Wignall (Cold War Kids), Dave Larring and Phil Ek. Along with having co-writtten a song with friend Matt Vasquez for the latest Delta Spirit album, and getting ready to open on the west coast for Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes) and tour Japan in March with Beck."

Successful Failures
"In short, Ripe for the Burning", brings back everything great about organic, roaring, kicking, melodic 80's indie-rock, from the Libertines/U.S. (what with the roots), to Big Dipper, Tim-era Replacements, etc… (and nowadays Sloan). Factor in the humor of "Niki Zerenberg" (a teenage fanzine dude) and "Never Moving Out" (sorry, mom!), and the deal's sealed. "

Gentlemen Christ
"Gentlemen Christ may have the guise of being one band, but don’t be fooled by appearances. There are two bands trapped in that one entity. One band has an affinity for early metal and 90s grunge rock, while the other prefers the epic ballads and shimmering harmonies of Roger Waters era Pink Floyd."

Jucifer
"Smart pop, quiet balladry, and bludgeoning sludge metal are all fair game... Valentine's voice ties things together, however; her croon sounds equally at home over acoustic guitar and Jucifer's wall of amps. (The band is famed for insanely loud shows involving upwards of 10-15 amp cabinets.)"

Mount Vicious
"Hailing from San Francisco and Oakland, Mount Vicious bottles catchy vocals, big riffs, driving bass, and powerful drums to create a noise rock meets classic rock molotov cocktail guaranteed to leave you broken and smiling in a heap of smoldering rubble. If you like balls out rock n roll, you will love Mount Vicious... and Mount Vicious will love you."

Lymbyc Systym
"Staunchly mellow-ite in their ideologies, Lymbyc Systym’s synergetic combination of rock instrumentals and hazy electronic trickery exist on the silver-lining of cloud-lined dreamscapes. From vintage analog fuzz to dreamy electronica to the dubby trickle of glockenspiels, ‘Carved by Glaciers’ is the result of laborious experimentation whose aim was to establish something fresh and unique from deep beneath the indie canopy. The closest frame of reference one can give is the mellow-dynamic of Do Make Say Think forged with the electro-fused post-rock structures of Mogwai which are delivered with the dark-dreampop aesthetic of Telepopmusik. It is by no means a perfect analogy but that in itself is testament to the breadth of stylistic traits Lymbyc Systym cover, and make their own."

Arc In Round
"Arc in Round's debut LP, Still Point of Turning, excels at the sort of synth-and guitar-laden psych-pop that has caused a "My Bloody Valentine-esque" shoegaze tag to be leveled at them on more than one occasion. Preconceptions aside, "Arc in Round's appeal is primarily in their aseptic, blusterous guitars and stacks of airy keys set against vocals that stretch across the tracks like a patient etherized upon a table. If Prufrock ever had a love song, this would be it."

Rosewood Thieves
"Being inspired by the Beatles is always a tricky proposition. For every ballsy bravado psychedelic copycat like Oasis (and I say that with a measure of trepidation) there’s a one-hit (or two-hit) uninspired might-as-well-be-a-tribute-band like The Knack. (though “good girls don’t” remains a favorite of mine). So what do you do when a band like The Rosewood Thieves comes along? Not only that, but they come along with a record like Heartaches By The Pound which is an album of covers of Solomon Burke songs. You give them the benefit of the doubt. Their publicist sent me a link to download the Solomon Burke record and 2008’s Rise and Shine. While both are well-crafted, genuinely enjoyable Beatles-inflected rock, the album of Solomon Burke covers shows the band to its best effect. It harnesses their youthful energy and brings their considerable talent to bear on the oeuvre of one of the great legends of American popular music."

Greg Laswell
"Greg Laswell's mesmerizing soundscapes create a dazzling embrace, resulting in a lush tapestry that entwines music, mood and emotion."

Elizabeth and The Catapult
"Elizabeth & the Catapult have managed to hurl themselves pretty far through word-of-mouth buzz. The unsigned local trio, led by vocalist Elizabeth Ziman and her Aimee Mann–like drawl, has built a loyal local fanbase via jazzy, buoyant pop songs; they're now making frequent appearances on NPR's Studio 360. Check out jaunty earworm "Momma's Boy," off their self-titled EP—these three won't be flying under the radar for long." -The Village Voice

Rosi Golan
"Rosi Golan is an Israeli born singer songwriter who has made many stops in her travels, including Germany, Paris, and finally ending up in Los Angeles at the age of nine, where she grew up. During her travels, she not only managed to hone her infectiously melodic songwriting, but also learned to speak three languages fluently: French, Hebrew and English. Rosi is indeed a long way from home, but certainly in the right place to showcase her unique talent for rich, dark melodies and a voice that not only draws you in, but still haunts you the next day."

Reeves Gabrels (of David Bowie / Tin Machine)
"Reeves Gabrels, a Grammy-nominated guitarist/songwriter/producer best known for both his work with David Bowie and his aggressive guitar style that combines the visceral energy of rock, the harmonic sophistication of jazz, the emotional honesty of blues and country, and an ear for the unusual. A furious cut-and-paster in the studio and an evil genius of atonal improvisation on stage Gabrels explores sonic extremes with a great, adaptive intuition for what each song needs most. He shows that his limitless technical and compositional skills can still shine without restraint. Guitar Player's Editor In Chief, Michael Molenda says. "Gabrels is one of those guitar players that, quite simply, redefine guitar craft...a bona fide 21st-century guitar god who deserves massive amounts of Justin Timberlake-style fame." He will go down as one of the true originals in the guitar-hero pantheon, even as his fusion of fretwork and computer processing questions and redefines that instrument's very place in the rock canon. Among those who know him at all, he is either loved or hated but never ignored; this alone guarantees his staying power. You'll be hearing a lot more from him -- whether or not you know it's him you're hearing. Reeves has also contributed music for film work by famed director David Lynch, and other bands and artists such as The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Brian Eno, Ozzy Osbourne, The Rolling Stones, Public Enemy and Natalie Imbruglia."

Do You Need The Service?
"Formerly the rhythm section for the band Vanishers, Mark and Justin saw themselves as a sort of rhythm section for hire that - in its free time - would write their own music with a vague, yet enticing, blueprint in mind: Headhunters meets Tubeway Army. Is this obvious when listening to our songs? Not even slightly. So the blueprint was more or less adopted... then ignored. That, and no one needed a rhythm section with whatever qualities we have. Either way, this is where Do You Need the Service? started."

Malajube
"As the name and cover art might suggest, Malajube's latest record, Labyrinthes treatment of religion's permutations is nearly as mazelike as its song structures, rife with instrumental interludes and stylistic mash-ups. Single "Porte Disparu" fuses punchy burlesque pianos with breezy guitars, while "333" dashes to the other end of the spectrum and overlays strings onto Iron Maiden-worthy riffs as Mineau muses...a rallying cry for living in the moment rather than an existential crisis. The album's meditations on what follows the mortal coil are as sweeping as the gulf between its genres, but both are handled with rewardingly nuanced subtlety." -Paste Magazine

XYZ Affair
"Like Electric Light Orchestra scored by Queen while The New Pornographers look on, Brooklyn quartet XYZ Affair bring a dramatic flair to their gilded melodies. Frontman Alex Feder’s fluttering tenor and mannered delivery recall New Pornos’ Carl Newman, particularly when the backing harmonies swell. The band’s educationally themed debut full-length, A Few More Published Studies, matches its baroque pop style with lyrical richness, and the slightly precious air is leavened by chewy, propulsive rhythms."

Three 4 Tens
ALL YOU CAN DRINK KENZINGERS WHILE SUPPLIES LAST! "This numerically minded Philadelphia group has a serious '60s fetish and they're not the least bit ashamed. They admit to being deeply influenced by early Barrett-era Pink Floyd and fellow Philadelphian Todd Rundgren's pre-prog Nazzdays, which they clearly are, but you might also detect hints of 5th Dimension-era Byrds and shades of their British Invasion counterparts (The Animals, The Who). However they derived their rock formula, The Three 4 Tens clearly got it right, because their classic blend of spacey psych and bouncy garage rock rarely fails to satisfy and entertain."

Adam and Dave's Bloodline
"Adam & Dave’s Bloodline, a band who has cruised the local Philly scene in recent years while occasionally opening for the likes of Jay Reatard and the Meat Puppets, are shape-shifters. The band has never shied away from genre-bashing techniques in the past - one of their older songs called “The Traveler”, Petersen once said, was essentially fused together from the Crystals’ “Then He Kissed Me” and Bob Dylan and the Band’s “You Ain’t Goin’ Nowhere” . These guys deliver rock and pop with guitar hooks aplenty. At times sounding radio-ready while unabashedly indie-rock, A&D's Bloodline are a solid troupe of local noisemakers."

Oblisk
"Not unlike the mysterious pillar suddenly appearing before the apes in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001, the Detroit-based Oblisk is at once unknowable and undeniably present. Sounding like an even more disaffected Dean Wareham, lead singer-guitarist Asim Akhtar intones distance over ghostly organ and skittish drums, while guitars pick out delicate melodies or cyclic, oblong riffs."

House of Fire
"House of Fire plays a more subtle genre of psychedelic rock than one would expect, as it's rife with melody and dreamy soundscapes. There's less fuzz than their heroes Jesus and Mary Chain and more warm acoustic moments (like the opener "The Apple and the Blade"). The album is very effective at balancing this more subdued mood with some layered and beefier choruses which render the songs grandiose. Their vintage sound is very much in keeping with their influences, which include Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Ride, and The Byrds" - Philly Girl About Town

Music For Headphones
"...Sometimes it assaults you like the finest of shoegaze bliss, the raw power of 60's garage, or the jangly sounds of the paisley underground. mostly, its all that at the same time with an under current that is equally seated in manchurian post punk, rio bossa and the repetition of kraut."

The Start
"Aimee Echo and Jamie Miller formed theSTART in the Fall of 1998, citing a mutual love of dark wave, dance music and art rock. The prophetic nature of their name revealed itself quickly,as they would be among the first of the crop of the new New Wave, alongside bands like the Faint, Le Tigre and Ladytron. Over the course of two acclaimed albums and one EP, theSTART’s modern eclecticism and rock hooks have earned them a devoted following and a reputation as trendsetters of this new millennium. Additionally, they’ve won considerable acclaim for unfailingly compelling live sets, having shared stages with a wide range of popular acts, including Garbage, She Wants Revenge, the Moving Units, The International Noise Conspiracy, Burning Brides, the Von Bondies, Joan Jett, Weezer, Incubus and AFI. (Echo recently completed a string of dates singing for Swedish indie dance phenomenon Teddybears, including an appearance with the band at this year’s Coachella festival.) With their third album “Ciao, Baby," theSTART delves into ever-more adventurous aural terrain, incorporating elements of experimental, electronic, and dance forms, fused with their distinctive rousing dark wave hooks and textures. Thematically, they continue to explore complex issues of identity, desire, and politics – both personal and global – through Echo’s enigmatic lyrical prism."

"Rosetta leaves an indelible impression on your psyche, nestling deep within the recesses of your mind all of the swirling riffs, multi-textured rhythms, bombastic exhibits of metallic glory, and serene soundscapes."

If These Trees Could Talk
"If These Trees Could Talk haven’t exactly been on the Post-Rock scene for long but already we can assure you that this name will not be forgotten. The record at hand (their debut LP) shoots to dizzying heights within its first few seconds and never once comes back down for its entire duration. Every single moment is an absolutely gleaming example of genre perfection and faultless musicianship."

Gifts From Enola
"Capturing a merger of Mogwai and Explosions In the Sky, Virginia-based group Gifts From Enola fuse a dynamic experimental set of wondrous post-rock opuses and almost ambient epic pieces that can be emotionally uplifting and catchy or dark and slightly sinister."

"Nomo pushes the envelope and comes up with something truly special. This one conjures up trailblazers Brian Eno (circa "Before and After Science") and Miles Davis (circa "On the Corner") and is utterly astonishing. And The Moneynotes
"And The Moneynotes began in 2006 as Dr. Horsemachine & The Moneynotes. Based in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the group sand-blasted audiences with a unique blend of vaudevillian country bluegrass pop. Backed by a tight rhythm section, the song writing of Mitchell Williams blended wonderfully with the virtuosity of violinist Coleman Smith. In 2007, after the completion of their first EP, “This Year We Hunt”, bassist Austin Smith retired to his native Texas. No one man could fill Austin's shoes, so the band added two new members, Pat Finnerty and Manny Quinn, formerly of Okay Paddy. With added dimensions of new personnel and instruments, not to mention different song writing perspectives, a name modification was in order. Thus: AND THE MONEYNOTES. Wishing to capture a moment of inspiration, the group quickly entered the studio and began recording their first full length, “New Cornucopia!”, a well received collection of jazz, ‘60’s surf, swing, garage-rock, and bluegrass."

Holy Ghost Tent Revival
"Don't think too hard about the genre in which Holy Ghost Tent Revival should be pigeonholed. Rather, get up, dance with your eyes closed and relish in the fact that the Greensboro (band) makes euphonium and banjo sound good together...Holy Ghost recalls a New Orleans jazz band rocking out, reminding us that, for a time, jazz wasn't much more than good and dirty dance music."

Sol.iLLaquists of Sound
"It would be an understatement to call the Solillaquists of Sound a mere Hip-Hop Band. Their message and ambitious fusion of varied stylistic genres continue to reinvent the perceptions and experience of music as a whole. The group consists of four dynamic individuals: Swamburger, Alexandrah, Tonya Combs, and DiViNCi. As they are each talented, focused and motivated enough to hold their own, they prove to be an undeniably ruthless force when working together. Backed by a powerful message of self-awareness, the Solillaquists combine rapid-fire lyricism, jazz-tinged vocals, insightful poetry, and innovative live electronic performance. Its not a rare occurrence for members of the audience as well as the band to be brought to tears by the level of truth and energy put forth in any one Solillaquists performance."
