Playloop Records and VGP Presents:

Natalie Walker
"It's often said that the true test of an artist's worth arrives on their second album, when they have to prove that their first was no fluke. By that measure, Natalie Walker has succeeded wildly with her sophomore effort With You, a startling maturation from the former lead singer of Daughter Darling. Expanding the strengths of her first solo album, 2006's Urban Angel, With You is a cool, elegant collection of ethereal songs with a warm beating heart, music that retains the stylish, spacey vibe of her debut while revealing an accentuated pop flavor. This is music that's insinuating and alluring, seductive yet sweet, an album that is poised to make Natalie Walker a breakout star, the kind of electronica singer/songwriter whose music is inescapable. Of course, Walker already has been hard to ignore, as Urban Angel penetrated the mass consciousness, earning strong reviews from Billboard, Urb, Trace and All Music Guide, as such singles as "No One Else" and "Quicksand" received heavy rotation. Another sign of how Urban Angel struck a universal chord is how its songs kept popping up in films and movies, starting with Sofia Coppola's use of a Thievery Corporation remix of "Quicksand" in Marie Antoinette, then spreading to the television hits Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy."

The Donkeys (Dead Oceans Records)
"Everything San Diego's Donkeys do is reminiscent to a quiet pier, a tranquil lake that looks like it’s make of mirrors or a shady yard with a spacious oak tree and a tire swing dangling down from a creaky branch. They are easy living and virtuous. They’re in favor of bringing back the good old days and the soda fountains. They support cookouts and beer from the bottle. They are gentle beings who believe in country, folk, roots and rock as much as they do peace, love and dope."

Miracle Fortress
"Miracle Fortress' tracks can sound as much like cybernetic love songs as teenage symphonies, suggesting another influence on Van Pelt's studio exercise: fellow texture-lover Brian Eno. Van Pelt's washes of dreamy synths and synth-like guitar leads over straight-ahead strums on opener "Whirrs" or the atmospheric "Little Trees" recall the way Eno achieved like-minded combinations during his 70s peak..." -Pitchfork Media

Hypernova (From IRAN)
"In Iran, people are not allowed to listen to Western music, let alone make it. Hypernova is an indie-rock band from Tehran influenced by groups such as The Strokes, the Arctic Monkeys and Queens of the Stone Age. Their new CD is called Who Says You Can't Rock in Iran?; they recorded it illegally in their home country..." -NPR "At a time when the chasm between East and West is growing daily and misplaced hostility and lack of communication are thwarting any efforts at building bridges, it is reassuring to know that there is still one medium that remains uncorrupted by petty bigotry and short-sightedness, and transcends all issues of race, religion and ideology. The Islamic Republic of Iran may not seem the most likely breeding ground for young up-and-coming musicians but, thanks to a few daring pioneers, doors that were seemingly locked tight by the strict moral laws have been cracked by a new generation of home-grown talent. Out of a musical landscape dominated by more traditional Prog-rockers, Metallers and the increasingly popular electronic and hip-hop sound, an Indie band named Hypernova was born. Now Iran is not too famous for its rock music, but these guys are going to change all that. Each member brings a different vibe and sound to the band to give it an even more unique edge. And even though they're just another obscure band in the galaxy of musicians, their following is growing at a very fast rate, thanks mostly to their legions of underground fans who have helped spread the word. In all reality, these guys are no different from the rest of the rockers around the world; their music is all about having a good time and just rocking your brains out. They're not in this game for the money, fame or glory. And they're definitely not trying to change the world...or are they?

The Major Labels
Featuring Mike Viola of the Candy Butchers and Bleu-- "...This is a brand new band by Expert Popsmiths Bleu, Mike Viola and Ducky Carlisle and it is exquisite. Although I loathe the term normally, the album is Beatlesque. The album is also T-Rexy, Bowie-y, Lennon and Mccartney solo-y and, to my uncannily trained ears, Hudson Brothers-y. It's a very addictive confection."

The Rowdies
"A mighty power trio reigns from the Philadelphia suburbs, and for nearly a decade this band has been raising hell, leaving no prisoners behind. They produce an alternative/pop concoction of drums, bass, and guitar straight out the garage."

Brothers and Sisters
Mem. of Trail of The Dead-- “Austin-based eight-peice who sound like Big Star jamming with Neil young (New Life) and The Jayhawks (Without You), The Mamas and the Papas, Byrds, even Ray Davies in a swamp. Country rock ballads and pop perfection, with imperfections in the home-made, one take sound to make it all the more engaging”

Adam and Dave's Bloodline
"Adam Garbinski and Dave Peterson started playing guitar and drums for Marah in '05, and everybody who heard If You Didn't Laugh You'd Cry was suddenly reminded how much fun Philadelphia's Most Drunkest could be. Now, with their self-titled release, Adam & Dave's Bloodline prove they're no mere Mrs. Dashes. Expect warm, jangly guitars, some catchy wah-wah-wah-oohs and choruses you can drink along to."

ROCK (David Unger of Love 666)
"Those familiar with the mid-90's heyday of the AmRep label's fantastic T Rex-meets-Blue Cheer power trio Love 666 will recall that band's penchant for grandiose statements of drug-fueled revolution (including the landmark album titled Please Kill Yourself So I Can Rock.) Over a decade later, Dave Unger and Joe Johnson are still advocating pure freedom, drug use and revolution in the new freeform noise rock collective fittingly named Rock / USAdown, two independent endeavors that perform separately on tour and on future releases."

Dynasty Electric
"Dynasty Electric seem poised to be NYC's next art rock darlings, and it's easy to see why. First off, they dress like The Carpenters on a bender, and this makes them unusually attractive. Second, this boy-girl band shows off some serious musical chops (and all the attitude that comes with them) in creating their feisty blend of dance, punk, electronica and so forth. Multi-instrumentalist Seth Misterka works his guitar into a frenzy and punk goddess Jennifer DeVeau soaks her vocals with a fem-rock attitude that hasn't sounded relevant since the late '70s. Between her Chrissie Hynde hairdo and her dissonant sass, which is reminiscent of Pretty Girls Make Graves' Andrea Zollo, DeVeau appears destined to become a pin-up girl for a new generation of indie hipsters. If the debut EP proves to be a mere warm up for these kids, now is a good time to hop on the Dynasty Electric Duo bandwagon. Just remember, you heard about them here first."- Splendid

See Saw Well
"It happens that 'seesaw well' is the moniker that Brandon Eckes has chosen for his music. Brandon was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and has since remained a resident of that city of questionable esprit de corps its name would suggest. he employs a variety of instruments both acoustic and electric, as well as digital hard/software to create sounds that will mingle, hobnob, sweet-talk one another, and by close of the evening, affably consent to unite and in so doing, beget, hopefully, sensible, urbane new beings of music encapsulated in indubitable authenticity. brandon's sole purpose in issuing forth these songs to you is to fashion a sort of tableaux of potentialities. these could be anything you want them to be. like an herb in the cabinet or an oil in the pantry to enhance the experience of some homemade dish; to aid you in remembrance of times past or visions of future days yet to unfold before you. they could at once be something meaningful or merely furniture-music, something to read the paper by or the soundtrack to tie ones shoe-laces to. who knows?"

The Swimmers
"Although 2008 sees the first full-length release by the Swimmers, the band has a long history as a fixture in the Philadelphia music scene. The release of Fighting Trees, the group’s highly anticipated debut on MAD Dragon (Ryko/WEA) in March 2008 will mark the first of many milestones that lie ahead for the quartet. Fighting Trees was recorded and mixed at Miner Street Studios, home of renowned Philadelphia producer Brian McTear (Matt Pond PA, Danielson, Mazarin). Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man) contributed additional tracking and the rest was recorded in Swimmers frontman Steve Yutzy-Burkey’s home studio. The self-produced album reveals a creative sensibility drawn from the band members’ small-town roots and current lives in artistic but gritty Philadelphia neighborhoods. Fighting Trees mixes an Indie-rock aesthetic with bright melodies and hook-filled choruses pulled from the pop and rock sounds of the 1960’s."

In Grenada
"In Grenada began in the fall of 2007 as the solo recording project of Philly musician and artist Jesse Leyh. These recordings are the product of that lonely effort, but In Grenada has since grown up to be a full band, turning its attention to bringing its brand of catchy, passionate indie rock to the stage."

Oxford Collapse (Sub Pop Records)
"While the OC mine the barren lands of Hoboken for archaeological evidence of their ancient heroes, the band have some new millennial fight in them... They are unstoppable, burning up imaginary stages, dominating 80s underground rock retrospectives, and owning the charts 23 years ago...there's something refreshing about a band as stubborn as Oxford Collapse: sure to be hated on for a handful of abrasive, outmoded stylistic choices, they remain adamant and unswerving. That devotion shines through on this mostly wonderful record." -Pitchfork Media

Takka Takka
"Sun-spotted drone (think Clap Your Hands Say Yeah on a methadone drip) gave way to lush soundscapes that called to mind frozen tundras and burning hearts, while frontman Gabriel Levine played his guitar like he was choking the chords out and shut his eyes tight behind his Buddy Holly frames. Set highlight "Silence," off their forthcoming LP, Migration (July 29, Ernest Jenning), transcendently contradicted its title, as the band wrapped barely there atmospherics around spacey vocals."

Y-Rock on XPN Presents:

dan le sac Vs Scroobius Pip
"The Essex-born pair Dan Le Sac and Scroobius Pip are pioneers of spoken word electronica. When London's influential XFM radio DJ John Kennedy received an innocuous-looking disc in the mail in December 2006, he liked it so much, he immediately played it on the air. The song on the disc — a scathing spoken-word indictment on government, relationships and contemporary music over a hard, electro beat — immediately hit a nerve among listeners. Within a week, “Thou Shalt Always Kill,” by then-unknown Dan Le Sac Vs. Scroobius Pip, became the most requested song in the show's history. From there, the song virtually exploded on the UK music scene, spreading to the States via word-of-mouth and a wickedly funny self-produced video."

B. Dolan
"Somewhere at the darkest fringe of the griot tradition, exists the sociopath man-ogre known as B. Dolan, effortlessly shifting shape between an activist, clown, writer, and performance artist. Since 2001, a series of gritty, spectacular performances have earned Dolan considerable notoriety; both for their controversial and challenging subject matter, and the brutal intensity with which they are delivered. Dolan first cut his teeth at Brooklyn's Nuyorican Cafe, and gained attention as part of HBO's Def Poetry Jam in 2002. He captured the Providence poetry slam title in both 2002 and 2003, and served as a member and coach to several national Slam teams before breaking with poetry slam in late 2003. From the cave to the stage, B. Dolan is bringing the circus to an incident near you. Step right up."

Cheers Elephant
"Cheers Elephant sound more British than most young Philly bands. They set out for prime Kinks real estate, and nearly close the deal with their rambunctious shows. (They could grow up to become the Teeth.) But as smoothly as songs like “Here We Are” and “Wide Eyed” channel ’60s psych and folk, the band reveals spidery digressions and fat Primus-style basslines amid their noisy rave-ups live. The result is a heady swirl of influences that grapple with each other for attention while Cheers Elephant play happily along. These guys may not have their sound set in stone yet, but most everything they’re doing is pleasing to the ears." -Philadelphia Weekly

Butane Variations
"They’ve earned their coveted sainthood in their searching woes and desperate readings into the readings of palms. There’s a lot of shivering before heat and then huddling with heads gently resting upon another, comforting whatever scary thoughts are rampaging upstairs." - Daytrotter

Creeping Weeds
"They're effervescent. Persnickety. Have an odd panache about them. And their full-length debut, We Are All Part of a Dream You're Having, jumps from hosting contagious songs with lumpy stomped beats and pastel-toned acoustic guitars to muzzy space rockers filled with dream-time singing."

I Am The Heat
"Their music captures the sound of rooftop parties, sweaty dance-floors, summertime flings, champagne, high fives and best friends. Equally inspired by the fury of 60's garage rock bands as they are with the masters of post-punk minimalism, I am the Heat has one aim with the music they write: "It's gotta be fun, and it's gotta make you move."

Chrome / Helios Creed
Final Tour--"Helios Creed is the legendary guitarist of San Francisco's proto-industrial acid-punk band Chrome. His unusual musical stylings have influenced bands such as Butthole Surfers, Ministry, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM and Prong. Helios Creed joined San Francisco's Chrome in 1977 to record their second album Alien Soundtracks. Helios' mastery of sustained, distorted guitar effects and deep, crooning vocals noticeably changed Chrome's direction and made them the science fiction inspired, avant-garde acid-punk that Chrome is best known for. Superior Catholic Finger in 1989, released on Subterranean, saw a return to Helios' noisier heritage with early Chrome, and coincided with the rising popularity of the noise and grunge sounds. Being no stranger to the road, Helios and his varying group of musicians have toured extensively since 1985. Incorporating tape loops, a multitude of FX boxes, and even a telephone handset, Helios' live shows expand upon his talents, demonstrating that his layering of multiple sounds isn't just studio trickery. As well as releasing titles under his own name, Helios has also collaborated on projects with Nik Turner, Hawkwind, Butthole Surfers, Jack Endino's Skin Yard, Genesis P-Orridge, and Bill Laswell."

"Denver's ever-so-magnificent Dressy Bessy is all about the guitars, the buzzed-out power-pop chords, the banging rhythm section, and finally, the sweet vocals of Tammy Ealom. Her sly lyrics wrapped around infectious melodies are what drives the band into indie-pop-rock perfection and critical acclaim."

“Rock Control is nothing if not fun: 30 minutes of fun-before-fashion bop-along guitar rock that recalls Warhol contemporaries T. "Black Landlord is a project started by Maxx (formerly of the Goats and Incognegro). It is a true collective. The idea began 4 years ago with friends and super-electro producers Leonard de Leonard and Olaf Hund. Working together in Paris and Berlin, writing songs and daydreaming about how to bring talented people together. Mike Relm
"San Francisco’s MIKE RELM is known for live performances which feature a series of audio mash-ups with video images, manipulated in real-time. It’s all captured the critically acclaimed video turntablist’s new DVD Clown Alley, set for release this July via his Radio Fried Films. Relm decided to push the DVD’s release back—it was originally due out in April--to allow additional time for the creation of two edits (R and PG) and to have it coincide with his appearance on Tony Hawk’s Boom Boom Huck Jam action sports tour this summer. Relm recently wrapped up his arena tour with the Blue Man Group. His other credits include performances for a San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland A’s baseball game and the closing ceremonies of the Pan Am Games in Rio de Janeiro. He completed remixes for Adult Swim in conjunction with the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie, scored a short film for the Disney Channel series “Too Many Robots,” and created a four-song mega mix for “Yo Gabba Gabba” (Nickelodeon). Relm also stars in an international TV spot for HSBC."

The Sideshow
The Sideshow fancies themselves as the ultimate DJ/VJ duo. They once formed a trio with Mike Relm called "Mike Relm and The Sideshow", but the group's bitter breakup in 2005 sent the clowns tumbling down a road of substance abuse and gambling problems. Following the success of Mike Relm's performances and YouTube hits, The Sideshow has become increasingly resentful in recent years since they feel he has stolen their material and called it his own. In one instance, The Sideshow has claimed in their blog that Relm's "Oh Face" piece is a direct copy of their "Meg Face" routine where they scratch a video of Meg Ryan's fake orgasm in "When Harry Met Sally." "Meg Face" was a popular piece in San Francisco coffee shops and various other open-mic nights, but was subsequently retired when Mike Relm unleashed his "Oh Face" to a mass audience with Blue Man Group in 2007. Feeling they deserved more notoriety, The Sideshow once again turned to alcohol and drugs to ease their jealous rage. Upon hearing of this, Relm invited them to join him on his first headline tour, on one condition - they must complete a 4 month rehab program. Now, in the fall of 2008 The Sideshow is back and better than ever. Though admittedly not completely sober, they have worked closely with Mike Relm to create a show that will take everything you've seen before to a whole new level. A select group of journalists who have been invited to take a sneak peek at their new show have called it "a cross between a Super Bowl halftime show and an orgasm." When asked what it was like to collaborate with his former bandmates, a visibly flustered Relm said "They're really talented, but when we started working together again, I realized why we didn't speak for 3 years."

The Wedding Present
"The Wedding Present have had eighteen UK Top 40 hit singles… not bad for a band that has, from its inception, stubbornly refused to play the record industry’s game. That was back in 1985 when David Lewis Gedge boarded a National Express coach in London with 500 records packed into a pair of his mother’s suitcases. In this fashion, the debut single GO OUT AND GET ’EM BOY! was collected from the pressing plant, delivered to the distribution company, and The Wedding Present was born. That pioneering spirit has been at the core of the band’s philosophy ever since. From GEORGE BEST, "an unmitigated delight" [NME], the first full-length release on their own Reception Records onwards, the band has charted an appealing, if often eccentric, course of its very own."

The Jealous Girlfriends
"The Jealous Girlfriends make it work. The Brooklyn four-piece pull together the tunefulness of Anglo New Wave and BritPop, the aggression and energy of Washingtonian indie rock – both district and state - and infuse it all with a little soul, working an alchemy that transforms these base musical elements into songs crackling with tension and excitement that are instantly memorable while revealing something new with every listen."

Brown Recluse Sings
"Recalling a combination of the unobtrusively pleasant sounds of Belle and Sebastian and the adventurous – almost nightmarish – arrangements of Os Mutantes (especially on “Margo Left in Bed”), Brown Recluse Sings proves to have the ability to stretch into a world of sound beyond conventional indie-pop."

Bearsuit (from the UK)
"Stop-start boy-girl cutie-killer six-piece with everything from cinematic waltzes to catchy electro disco and hard punk screaming riot grrl noise. A mix of Belle and Sebastian, Huggy Bear, and Sonic Youth with electronic twists and turns, and screamy art punk. The band first captured the imagination of the late John Peel, notching up four Radio 1 sessions for the legendary DJ and scoring three top five hits in his Festive 50, including scooping the number 2 slot in his post-humous chart. They have since gone on to become darlings of the indie-art-rock scene and are now signed to Fantastic Plastic Records (known for kickstarting the careers of bands including The Guillemots, Ash, the Wannadies, the Futureheads, Ikara Colt)."

"Dream pop band Mahogany was formed in December 1995 by Allysa Massais and Andrew Prinz, who shared a love for composers such as Debussy and bands such as Section 25. A unique combination of vocals, cello, massed guitars, sequencers, synthesizers, percussion, and other instruments make for Mahogany's massive, celestial sound."

Monocle
"Monocle is a band from Brooklyn, NY...Ten hands, textures and melodies, transistors and inner tubes, waves and fiberglass, alien moonlit dinners, harmonic tartar...Band biology: keyboards, transistor organs, guitar saturation and dry intimacy, vox everywhere, drums and bass. Invented in 2005."

Ports of Call
“Philadelphia five-piece Ports of Call aren’t the first band to bathe in the tuneful shoegaze jangling of Ride, but they’ve soaked up the influences to nice effect. On “Washout”, from their self-released Like Thieves..., some wobbly guitar strums, smoldering distortion, and faraway warbles surround a measured bass line, cymbals splashing right behind them. Thomas Mosher, on guitar, and Carolynne McNeel—who plays guitars, violins and keyboards in the group-- trade sweet, C86-ready nothings in duet, their whispery voices barely emerging above the din.”

The Aggrolites (Hellcat Records)
"The Aggrolites are a reggae band from Los Angeles, California. The Aggrolites are an amalgamation of two previous Los Angeles reggae and ska bands, the Vessels and the Rhythm Doctors. They formed in 2002 as a live backing band for reggae icon Derrick Morgan, and were asked to record music for a new Morgan album. The project was never released but the recording sessions inspired the Aggrolites to become a permanent band. Ruder Than You
"Ruder Than You was founded in 1989 at Penn State University and relocated to Philadelphia in 1991, arguably becoming the most popular ska-influenced Philadelphia band - EVER. The Ruder Than You identity has never fit too neatly into any of the generic ska categorizations. While ska and reggae stylings have always provided the common musical thread, over the past 18+ years they've been mixing in dancehall reggae, hip-hop, rocksteady, and rub-a-dub, even adding elements of funk, jazz, and punk - to create their own unique sound. What is consistant is the band’s energy and enthusiasm, which inevitably pulls people out onto the dance floor."

Octopus Project
"Even before the MySpace community voted them their favorite band to open up Coachella last year, the Octopus Project showed real potential to connect with today's increasingly tech-happy music listeners. Unlike, say, Radiohead or Wolf Parade, bands with a bleak, often anti-technological stance despite their significant use of machine textures, this Austin instrumental act creates music sounding completely at peace with Earth 2.0. No wonder they've enchanted MySpace, the blogosphere, and any other demographic that communicates online much more frequently than in person-- they're cyberspace's ultimate guilt-free party band." -Pitchfork Media

Jeans Team
"Jeans Team has been creating electronic music since 1995 and is based in Berlin, Germany. They combine elements of dance music with complex pop-structures using minimal (mostly German) lyrics. Jeans Team is a co-founder of the galerie berlintokio, one of Berlins most magnetic and stimulating underground places in the late 90ies.It is the place of their very first live performances, rehearsals and recordings. Here they produced their first punk singles, "Hi Fans" and "Ein Atom", which were released in 1998 on their own label, Nadel Eins. They have performed on many tours within Europe, and have also played in Russia, the US and Canada. The fact that they sing in German doesn't seem to bother anyone, as the performances are more about their specific energy and show rather than the language they sing in. Within the young German music scene, Jeans Team has become a force to be reckoned with. Many other bands look up to the unconventional style of Jeans Team as a new standard."

Danielson (CD Release)
"Daniel Smith, the eldest sibling of five, closely-knit, brothers and sisters, has released music under a handful of different monikers since 1995. Originally creating “Danielson” as an art school project for his senior thesis, the idea quickly started to grow into the aptly named “Danielson Famile.” This group, which brought into the mix his four younger siblings along with a few friends from childhood, released the critically-acclaimed, “Tell Another Joke at the Ol’ Choppin’ Block” in 1997. During the next two years saw the release of two back-to-back concept albums, “Alpha” and “Omega” under the name “Tri-Danielson,” before Danielson Famile returned with a family celebration album called “Fetch the Compass Kids,” released in 2001. Three years later, he returned with “Brother is to Son,” an album celebrating personal identity and community, but this time released under the moniker “Br. Danielson.” Hailing from suburban Clarksboro, New Jersey, it is difficult to separate Danielson from their gooey visuals (costumes and graphics) and the spirited music, regarding which, Daniel says, “One enters your heart through your eyes, one through your ears.”

Cryptacize
"Cryptacize began across the street from the C&H Sugar Factory in Crockett, CA, where Nedelle (ex-KRS) and Chris Cohen (The Curtains) lived in a tilted apartment. Constant dizziness and the smell of burning sugar became a permanent part of their psyches, and is consequently their biggest influence. One morning while brushing their teeth, toothpaste running sideways out of their mouths, Nedelle pronounced the word 'Cryptacize' and the house appeared to incline in the opposite direction! Soon after this strange incident, they discovered something even stranger on youtube - a drummer named Michael Carreira, who they sought out and convinced to join their uncanny crusade. The band's debut album, "Dig That Treasure", was released in early 2008 by Asthmatic Kitty Records."

Rose Hill Drive
"Rose Hill Drive, a young power trio whose members somehow all manage to look like the last known photograph of Duane Allman, grew up in Boulder, Colorado, worshipping guitar-shredding groups like the Who and Van Halen. Rose Hill Drive's debut sounds like it was buried in a time capsule in 1974. Their stripped-down yet highly frenzied music has drawn frequent comparisons to Cream and Led Zeppelin"

Colour Revolt
"If you were to have told Junior Kimborough, T-Model Ford and R.L. Burnside their legacy as the superstars of Oxford, Mississippi’s premier blues label would be superseded by a roster of skinny suburban indie-rockers, any one of them would’ve slandered you in verse. For Colour Revolt, though, the influence of Fat Possum’s Not The Same Old Blues Crap compilations is as prominent in their sound as their favorite Screaming Trees and Kyuss records. “Naked And Red,” the lead track off their label debut, Plunder, Beg And Curse, is one of the most propulsive slices of heavy Southern gothic since Sixteen Horsepower’s The Low Estate. And what with its talk of swinging from liquor trees, a misunderstood Devil and the dark side of Eden and all, it might as well have been written somewhere in the middle of the swamp with a beat-up acoustic (it was recorded at Sweet Tea Studios, in the heart of the Delta, with acclaimed indie knobsmith Clay Jones). Still, Kings Of Leon don’t have shit on these guys."

Bang Camaro
"Boston's Bang Camaro is more than a metal band. It is its own metal universe; a self-contained cosmos encompassing the last quarter-century of metal – pop metal, hair metal, speed metal, thrash metal, glam metal – writ large, loud, and proud. Yes, you've heard all the riffs before, back when you were a kid hanging in a heavy metal parking lot in the 'burbs, cranking Dio or Iron Maiden, and plotting the weekend itinerary for the Def Leppard concert (cue up "Pleasure [Pleasure]"). Which is precisely the point. Like fellow throwbacks Waltham and Damone, Bang Camaro – a local supergroup of sorts comprised of members of some of Boston's best past and present rock bands (the Good North, Model Sons, Taxpayer) – is all about the good times that were shunted aside and put away all too soon when "adulthood" beckoned. The Camaro's debut full-length rights this egregious wrong with tracks like the Thin Lizzy-esque, shredded-be-thy-name rock holiness of "Rock of Mages," the narcissistic grandeur of "You Know I like My Band," and, of course, a power ballad ingeniously titled "The Ballad" (one for the ladies, and lovers everywhere). Fear not: Bang Camaro have come to save our sorry, rock-depleted souls, and they're taking no prisoners. They've brought "electric fire," a gazillion guitars, and, like, 20 singers, dude. Sure, KISS may have had their Army, but Bang Camaro *is* the Army."
